Table Mountain Hike in the Columbia Gorge

August 2014

Table Mountain is a Columbia Gorge hike I’ve only done a few times.  Jon and Kirti hadn’t been on the hike before.  The start of the hike was tricky but we made all of the right turns and ended up on the correct trail.  There were a few steep sections and jumbled rock to cross.  There were good views at the top looking over Bonneville Dam.  You can stand on the edge of a nearly vertical 800 foot wall.  Purplish-blue harebells, red maple leaves, spruce cones and ravens gave us interesting things to examine up close.  We took the Heartbreak Ridge route on the way down.  At one point we hung hammocks for a comfortable rest in the forest. This hike was 8 miles with an elevation gain of 3200 feet with a loop near the top.
